Perking Up: Restaurants Offer Primo Employee Perks to Reward + Retain Staff

employee perks

Strong salaries, bonuses, health benefits, and paid time off are the usual lures restaurateurs use to retain and reward staffers. However, these restaurants are dangling more unique employee perks.

KYU, Miami, Florida

On their one-year anniversary, an employee receives complimentary dinner for two at the restaurant with a beverage pairing and a custom KYU t-shirt and pin. The three-year anniversary earns them one-night stay at a selected Miami hotel, Warby Parker sunglasses, a $400 food credit at selected Miami restaurants, and custom KYU Converse. To celebrate five years of employment, they earn a three-day, two-night trip to Nashville, New York, Austin, or Chicago, including flights, hotel, and an $800 Visa gift card. After a decade with the restaurant, they score a one-week trip to Japan, Thailand, or Korea, transportation to the airport, and a $1,500 Visa gift card. And if they make it to 20 years, they get a Delorean. Yes, like in Back to the Future. On top of all of that, the restaurant closes annually for an Employee Appreciation Day; the most recent celebration featured a trip to Universal Studios.

Ana at District Winery, Washington, D.C.

Staffers receive a discount on all retrial wine purchases. Additionally, each employee and a guest can take a complimentary winery tour and tasting. The goal of the program is to completely familiarize the team with the winery’s offerings, while helping them continuously cultivate their wine knowledge.

Founding Farmers, Washington, D.C.

Managers score a meal benefit card, which can be used when dining out with friends and family at any location of Founding Farmers, as well as sister concepts Farmers Fishers Bakers and Farmers and Distillers. Perhaps best of all, any staffer can book an appointment any time with the restaurant’s massage therapist.

Wildfire, McLean, Virginia

The nationwide chain offers various perks through their parent company, Lettuce Entertain You. The most unique is access to free online English classes through National Geographic Learning so students can obtain or refine language skills. Bonus: employees can score discounts on travel, gym memberships, apparel, dining out, and electronics.

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant, Merrillville, Indiana

The national chain offers employees monthly dining discounts and a complimentary wine tasting for two. Additionally, they receive discounts on wine and retail purchases, carryout orders, and private events.

In-N-Out Burger

Employees of the iconic West Coast burger chain can treat themselves to a Double-Double burger and fries during each shift.
